A white orchid grows from a round grey pot on a wooden table. It has three open flowers with pink centres and two closed buds. Soft sunlight falls in stripes across the cream wall behind. The shapes are big and simple, so it's a good first painting. Your paint stays inside the lines, so the wall colour won't spill onto the petals.

How to paint it

  1. Choose Watercolour for a soft look or Oil for a bolder one. Make the brush big and paint the wall cream. Add the soft shadow stripes with Darker.
  2. Paint the table light brown, then add its shade with Darker. Paint the pot light grey and shade its right side with Darker.
  3. Paint the leaves dark green and the stems and buds light green. Add the shade under each leaf with Darker.
  4. Paint the petals the palest cream, with a soft purple shade near the middle. Paint the flower centres pink.
  5. Dot the speckles on the pot and the lines in each centre with the Pencil. Dab a few bright spots on the petal edges with Gouache in the palest cream.
