This Diwali scene has strings of orange and yellow marigolds beside a blue door. Copper bowls full of flowers sit on the stone steps, next to small clay lamps. In front, a bright rangoli pattern opens like a flower. It's a good next step once you've painted a few. Your paint stays inside the lines, so the rangoli colours won't run together.

How to paint it

  1. Choose Watercolour for a soft look or Oil for a bolder one. Make the brush big and paint the evening sky lavender. Paint the door blue, with Darker in its panels.
  2. Paint the stone pillar and steps beige. Add the shade under each step with Darker.
  3. Paint the bowls copper, then add their shade with Darker. Paint the clay lamps red-brown.
  4. Paint the rangoli's big petals coral and the ones between them blue-green. Paint its centre gold and its outer leaves blue.
  5. Paint the leaves green. Tap Texture twice and choose Foliage. Dab the marigolds orange and yellow, and the flowers above them pink.
  6. Add the flames with Gouache in the palest yellow. Add the rangoli's white lines with Gouache in cream.
