Bowls of bright spice sit on a wooden counter in an old stone market. Glass jars line the shelf, and a gold scale hangs on the wall. Through the arch, a sunny lane climbs up some steps. It's a good next step once you've painted a few. Your paint stays inside the lines, so one spice colour won't run into the next.

How to paint it

  1. Choose Watercolour for a soft look or Oil for a bolder one. Make the brush big and paint the back wall blue-grey. Add the shade at its edges with Darker.
  2. Paint the stone arch, the lane beyond it and the floor cream. Add the shade inside the arch with Darker.
  3. Paint the counter and shelf brown, with Darker for the wood lines. Paint the sacks sand.
  4. Paint the jars pale grey and the jug orange-brown. Paint the bowls cream with blue stripes. Paint the scale gold.
  5. Paint the spices yellow, red, sand and dark red. Paint the cinnamon brown and the plants and tree green.
  6. Add the star anise, lamp and scale chains with the Pencil and the darkest colour. Dab a little cream shine on the jars with Gouache.
