A shiny gold compass and a red pencil lie on a folded map. The map shows two green islands in a blue sea. Everything sits on an old blue-green wooden table. The shapes are big and clear, so it's a good first painting. Your paint stays inside the lines, so the blue sea won't spill onto the islands.

How to paint it

  1. Choose Watercolour for a soft look or Oil for a bolder one. Make the brush big and paint the table blue-green. Add the shadows around the compass and between the boards with Darker.
  2. Paint the map cream and the sea on it light blue. Paint the islands green.
  3. Paint the compass ring gold, then add its shade with Darker. Paint the compass face cream.
  4. Paint the pencil red, with its sharpened end light brown. Paint the leaves green and the rope and old wood light brown.
  5. Add the needle in red and dark blue with the Pencil. Draw the red dotted route on the map. Dab a white shine on the compass glass with Gouache.
