Paper Lantern Workshop: A quiet paper-lantern craft table with two different large paper lanterns, one gently glowing and one unlit, bamboo hoops, folded paper and a small pair of scissors. One unfinished lantern hangs above the far side of the table. Evening blue beyond a broad window; thoughtful festive craft, no text.

Two paper lanterns sit on a wooden craft table by a big window. The round one glows softly, and the tall pink one isn't lit yet. Scissors, folded paper and bamboo rings lie in front. It has more to paint but clear shapes, so it's a good next step. Your paint stays inside the lines, so the blue window won't spill onto the lanterns.

How to paint it

  1. Choose Watercolour for a soft look or Oil for a bolder one. Make the brush big and paint the sky in the window blue. Paint its lower part soft purple.
  2. Paint the wall cream and the window frame dark blue-grey. Paint the table light brown, then add its shade with Darker.
  3. Paint the round lantern cream and the tall lantern pink. Add the shade near their edges with Darker.
  4. Paint the jug and loose paper cream, and the folded paper and bowl light blue. Paint the chair brown, the scissors grey and the plant leaves green.
  5. Draw the lantern ribs, the rings and the hanging frame with the Pencil in gold. Dab the palest cream on the glowing lantern with Gouache.
