The Lantern Railway

A green steam train with gold trim waits under a glass station roof. Lanterns hang in a row above the wet platform. A town on a hill sits under a pink and blue evening sky. Try it when you want a longer painting with lots of detail. Your paint isn't kept inside the lines here, so go slowly near the edges.

How to paint it

1. Choose Watercolour for a soft look or Oil for a bolder one. Zoom in and use a small brush near the edges. If paint goes over a line, tap Undo.
2. Paint the low sky light pink. Make the brush big and paint the upper sky blue-violet. Paint the hill town cream and its trees dark green.
3. Paint the glass roof pale blue and the iron frame and columns dark grey. Paint the platform light brown, then add the wet shade with Darker.
4. Paint the engine green, then add its shade with Darker. Paint the carriages dark red and the front beam red.
5. Paint the lanterns and lamps gold. Paint the trunks brown, the flower pots orange-brown and the plants green.
6. Add the gold trim with the Pencil. Draw the rails and wheel spokes in dark grey. Dab pale cream on the lamp centres and their reflections with Gouache.
